The Gunflint Trail and Grand Marais, MN area are truly beautiful this time of year. Snow on the ground, frost on the trees, and NO bugs. I really enjoy waking up with a cup of coffee in the morning while getting the wood stove going, over waking up to the sound of mosquitos still on the window screens from the night before.
We haven’t had a lot of snow yet this year, but there is enough to get out and have a little fun on the snowmobile. I like working hard all summer and I like things slowing down a little when it’s below zero. Besides getting out on the snowmobile, a lot of my free time now has been spent getting the new band going. It’s called D’Merritt, and we are having a lot of fun playing pop and rock. I played bass for years growing up and now I get to enjoy it again.
For a small town and a pretty small population for the whole county, there are a lot of musicians up here, and a lot of different places that bring in live music. Through out the last couple years I have played with different people, at Gunflint Lodge, Windigo Lodge, Trail Center, Papa Charlie’s in Lutsen, the Schroeder Town Hall, in the WTIP radio station, the Gunflint Tavern, Trail’s End Cafe, The Landing on Devil’s Track, Hungry Jack Lodge, the American Legion in Grand Marais, and probably more that I can’t remember right now. It makes for a fun, entertaining community.
I also noticed a quick tip in the January 2010 Fine Homebuilding magazine. Everybody is going to flat screen TV’s now and to save space they are often being hung on walls. Just a reminder in case the Tv’s best location is above a fireplace. Mount the TV at least 18″ above the top of the fireplace opening. The TV owners manual may have other recommended clearances as well. You can also use a thermometer to check the temperature at the TV location before mounting. There may be an operating temperature range listed in the owners manual.
